The Navy Peacoat, also known as a "reefer jacket" has been a seafaring tradition among Dutch, British and American sailors for over 200 years. Its densely woven Melton wool is thick and soft, providing exceptional comfort across a wide range of temperatures and sailing conditions... stays warm even if it gets wet!
Although the "official" version was discontinued by the Department of Defense in 2018, this peacoat has retained all of the same form, function and appearance as the original US Government Issue, and continues to meet US Navy /mil-specifications:
- 29oz Melton wool blend (75% wool/25% blended fibers)
- Hip length, double breasted design for coverage and warmth
- Regulation buttons with US Navy anchor insignia
- Flip-up wind resistant collar, Vented Back
- 2 exterior pockets / 1 interior pocket
- Quilted polyester lining (interior)
- Includes 2 spare buttons, sewn to the interior

Sizes Run Large. When selecting a size, please note that peacoats are oversized with plenty of extra room to fit over another jacket or bulky sweater. The peacoat was comfortable and warm. Its best trait is its wind resistance. Much better than so-called "modern" coats. These types of coats have been used for centuries by sailors and therefore you can't go wrong with a peacoat. As long as it is wool, it is good as any other. I will say, however, that if one does prefer a smaller fitting, and one were perhaps a 38, I would suggest ordering a 36. However, if one plans on wearing this in conjunction with perhaps a sweater or/and another lighter coat underneath, as a protection against really cold weather, order your normal exact size as peacoats are usually made to be slightly larger than your normal size to account for those extra layerings.
